The Dalesman – 6201 Princess Elizabeth on the Settle to Carlisle
First opening to passengers in 1876, the Settle – Carlisle line takes in 20 viaducts, 14 tunnels and countless beautiful vistas along its 72 mile track. This historic line travels across the stunning Pennine hills, showcasing the English countryside at its best.
The train is initially diesel hauled from York, but from Hellifield No. 6201 Princess Elizabeth will take over ready for the ascent to Ais Gill summit on the famous Settle to Carlisle route, taking in some of the most spectacular scenery in the country along the way. Upon arrival at Carlisle, passengers will alight to explore the historic town before Princess Elizabeth retraces her steps back to Hellifield via the route’s world famous 24 arch Ribblehead viaduct.
